Karol Maia is a director and screenwriter from Jardim Helena, a peripheral neighborhood in São Paulo. She was selected for the RUMOS – Itaú Cultural 2018 with her first feature-length project, the documentary "Aqui Não Entra Luz", which explores the social and architectural connections between the maid’s room and the slave quarters. She directed "Mães do Brasil 2" for TV Globo and "Cartas Marcadas" for Warner Bros Discovery, and also created scripts and directed projects for Feel Filmes, Atocha Filmes, and YouTube. Karol wrote and directed the web series "Cultura das Bordas" and "Nossa História Invisível", all funded by local cultural grants. In advertising, she directed campaigns for Netflix, Itaú, Claro, and Amstel, and created the social media series "Quebradas do Mundo" for Netflix. In 2020 and 2021, she joined screenwriting labs Co-Laboratory (Netflix) and LaNaNe (Globo).
