Karol Maia is from Jardim Helena, a peripheral neighborhood in São Paulo. She is a director and screenwriter with experience in cinema and advertising. She was selected by RUMOS-Itaú Cultural 2018 with her first feature film project, the documentary "Aqui Não Entra Luz", a film that investigates the social and architectural relations between the maid's room and the slave quarters. She directed “Mães do Brasil 2” for TV Globo and “Cartas Marcadas” for Warner Bros Discovery, in addition to having scripted and directed other titles for clients such as Feel Filmes, Atocha Filmes and YouTube. She directed and scripted the web series “Cultura das Bordas” and “Minha História Invisível” and the short film “Do Amor à Cura”, all projects covered by municipal notices. In advertising, she has directed for clients such as Netflix, Itaú, Claro and Amstel, created and directed the series “Quebradas do Mundo” for Netflix's social networks.
